Install your gameplan for hurricane season

May 31, 2015
Today is the start of the 2015 hurricane season.  Even though forecasters are calling for a below-average season, Louisiana officials are urging you to get prepared for a storm now. Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness spokesman Mike Steele says their message every year is "Get a Game Plan."

"Make sure that you have a plan for your family, for your business, for your pets," said Steele. "Making sure everything is in place should some type of emergency develop."

Steele says in addition to hurricane preparedness items, you should also think about things like prescription medication paperwork, insurance papers and other important documents.

"Birth certificates, wedding certificates just make sure you have those copied so you can pick them up and take them with you should you be forced to evacuate," said Steele.

Steele says we've been fortunate to have had a low level of tropical activity in recent years, but we can not let our guard down. He says they don't want people to be complacent just because NOAA is predicting zero-2 major Hurricanes for the season.

"Even if that number is low, you could have ONE that causes a big time problem for Louisiana," said Steele.
