The End of The 10s: Our Favorite Albums of 2019

As we're rounding out this crazy weird decade, we've taken some time to look over all the great (and not so great) music that hit us over the last ten years. We received some stellar albums and unexpected collaborations this year and now you should take some time and fill your ears with some of our favorites!

Big Thief - Two Hands - Specifically the song “Not,” Big Thief put out two records this year!?! I’m new to this band but keep coming back to it.

Billie Eilish - When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? - I don’t get excited about hype around artists like Billie Eilish, but I still put the record on when it dropped. Shame on me for being close minded because this thing is the most interesting mainstream album to drop in 2019.

Baroness - Gold & Grey - I remember being over the moon excited that Baroness were playing at the 1077 The End stage at Bumbershoot a zillion years ago and still feel that way when I see them doing anything new or old. This record is quite the departure from the band I saw back in the early 10’s, but it’s mega.

Vampire Weekend - Father of the Bride - I, like many, couldn't wait for this album. I mean, it had been about six years since VW released any new material and we were ready for it! This album is such an eclectic mix of sounds and genres and I love that the band reached out for assistance on a few songs. Danielle Haim is basically a guest throughout the record and their collab with Steve Lacy was an unexpected treat!

Interpol - A Fine Mess EP - An extension of the band's last album, Marauder. These are the songs that didn't make the final cut and I'm glad the band decided to release them, so good!

K.Flay - Solutions - I love K.Flay's older music mainly because it's edgy and raw and you can feel her anger, and once you get used to an artist singing a certain way, it can be difficult to switch gears. K.Flay proved though, that she can make awesome music when she's peeved off at the world, and when she's crazy happy and in love. This album has been my lift and hug when I needed it and has more of a positive outlook. Give it a listen sometime.

Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go - I know, she’s one of the hottest artists on the planet right now… but for good reason. She’s super talented!! Great lyrics (and I also get to lyrics last… I’m a guy) and a big shout out to her brother Finneas for the amazing production on this album!

Cage The Elephant - Social Cues - Matt and Brad Schultz and the band have created the album of their career. This one I can put on and listen all the way through it.

Catfish and the Bottlemen – The Balance – It’s no secret that I’ve been a fan of this band since their first tour when I saw them play in front of 70 people in a tiny club in Chicago. Now they can own a big stage. Get to know this one before Deck The Ball Ball and get ready to sing along!

HEALTH – Vol.4::Slaves Of Fear – Not much of a radio record but this one speaks to my synth/industrial/Stabbing Westward background. Solid record from this LA band.

Stats – Other People’s Lives – I love records like this I just stumble on. This is a band from the UK who have a bit of a Talking Heads vibe. I’m psyched to hear more from these guys.
