It's International Women's Day! A global celebration of the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women, and we have some crazy talented, driven and fierce women blowing up the Alternative Music scene! Let's start with one of my personal favorites, Bishop Briggs.

Bishop is a hustler. She played at just about every music festival you could think of, opened arena shows for Coldplay without taking a break, hit the road for her own headlining tour. During that time BB released an intense (in the best way) EP and even had time to pay it forward to aspiring musicians. She is one of the sweetest people on the planet and one heck of a performer! Speaking of fierce and not giving a F, her latest album Champion is fire!

Alice Merton may be one tiny human, but she has the booming voice of a thousand angels! I don't even know what that means, but just go see her live the next time she's in Seattle and you will be blown away! Alice has been making some big moves the last couple years. She already has 'major TV appearance' under her belt and she made history by becoming the ninth lead solo woman to top the Alternative Songs chart. Alice is the first woman to top Alternative charts since Lorde in 2014.

I am in lerve with her song, No Roots, but this is one of my favorites off her debut album, Mint!

K. Flay has been in the game for a minute, but is just now getting the recognition and radio play she deserves! She was the first artist to be signed to Dan Reynolds' (of Imagine Dragons) record label, Night Street, and this year she was up for Best Rock Song at the Grammys for "Blood in the Cut"!

I love that her music doesn't fit in just one genre box. It's a mix of alternative, hip-hop, and rock and what you see is what you get with K.Flay (whose real name is Kristine Flaherty). Her music is unapologetic and straight up fire! One time when K.Flay was in town, she jumped in a studio with producer Budo to rework some of her favorite songs of her album, Every Where Is Some Where:

Sophie Hawley-Weld of Sofi Tukker. Sophie is a true artist. She studied Portuguese at Brown, where her collaboration with Portuguese poets began. She said she loves how the language sounds in music and that inspired her to learn it, own it and perform songs in the language live. She is making a living by creating music and art with her best friend, Tucker Halpern. I mean, talk about goals, right?

Lorde is queen. Yes, I said it. When she was just five years old, she joined a drama club and developed public speaking skills. When I was five I was trying to make fart noises with my armpits... I mean..   moving on.

Lorde gives her mom credit for her lyrical style. Lorde, whose real name is Ella says her mum influenced her writing style by giving her tons books as a child Lorde was reading books I read in highschool by the time she was ten. Ok, overahciever! ;)  She took those reading and writing skills at such a young age and turned them into a career by her early teens. Everyone knew the name Lorde by 2014- she was topping Alternative charts with her song "Royals" and doing her thang on stage!  To this day she captivates audiences around the world with her mystical stage antics and well curated lyrics and we get to melt into her music tomorrow at Key Arena!

These are just a few of my favorite women kicking butt in the Alternative world, who are some of your favs?
