New Music Friday: Dreamers, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Lizzo + More!

April 26, 2019

A nice bundle of music fell into our laps over the last week and you should take some time over the weekend to get your ears on it! Check out some of my favorites below:

Dreamers - Insomniac - First off, I love this band so much. They are some of the nicest dudes in the biz and today they gave us a whole new album titled Launch Fly Land! Frontman Nick Wold, who is from Seattle, said that their song "Insomniac" "is about lying awake unable to sleep, unable to quiet the mind, caught in the spider web of doubts, loneliness and haunting memories."

Catfish and the Bottlemen - Fluctuate - CATB gave us the gift of (solid) new music today with the release of their anticipated third album, The Balance. There are a lot of gems on this album, and since you already know "Longshot", start with this one:

Lizzo - Like A Girl - Lizzo The Queen (what I like to call her) is taking over and you best prepare yourself! Her lyrics tackle independence, confidence, self-love and being a bad a$$ human. Lizzo just dropped a fire bomb on us with her new album, Cuz I Love You and this is one of my favorite songs on it. She opened up a bit about the meaning..

"I realized there was an important piece missing: What if you identify as female but aren’t gender-assigned that at birth? Or what if you’re male but in touch with your feminine side? What about my gay boys? What about my drag queens? So I decided to say, If you feel like like a girl/Then you real like a girl, and that’s my favorite lyric on the whole album.“

She'll be taking over Showbox SoDo this Sunday night and headlining this year's Capitol Hill Block Party - don't miss her!

Johnny Marr - Armatopia - Johnny Marr (ya know, the guitarist and co-songwriter of The Smiths) put out a fantastic album last year, Call The Comet and recently gifted us with a brand new song. This song is one of my favorites this year so far, it's a total banger! Take a listen once and you'll have it on repeat, trust!
