Today Would Have Been Kurt Cobain's 50th Birthday

It's crazy to think that we lost Kurt Cobain 23 years ago. One of the best musicians of our generation, the icon of the grunge era, Kurt's music has touched so many over the years and today, February 20, would have been the Aberdeen native's 50th birthday.

Paying respects in Aberdeen

I remember the first time I listened to Nirvana. My mom wasn't a fan of me listening to rock music at the raw age of nine. So, once again, I had to sneakily listen to my Nirvana cassette under my bed. I was too young to fully understand the depth of Kurt's lyrics, but his voice has this way of translating the pain and that drew me in.

Do you remember the first time you listened to Nirvana? Or were you lucky enough to be at their first live performance of Smells Like Teen Spirit?

Kurt was unapologetic and didn't give a sh*t about what was 'cool' and ironically, became the epitome of cool. He was also, in a way, a savior for many of us. So, it only felt right to pay my respects to him on his old turf.

Today we say Happy 50th birthday to the man who taught us to come as we are. How are you paying tribute to Kurt on this rainy Seattle Monday?

Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter and share some of your favorite Kurt moments and *quotes.
