Is this band SHEAFS just the Arctic Monkeys in disguise?

January 17, 2017

While "Is This Band The Arctic Monkeys?" sounds like a game you would play on a show with Jimmy Fallon, we are asking a serious question.

After watching a video about a Newcastle United striker and thinking the background song was an Arctic Monkeys song I somehow hadn't heard, I had to look it up.

Siri told me the song was by some band called SHEAFS and not Arctic Monkeys. But it left me wondering, are SHEAFS actually just Arctic Monkeys in disguise?

Let's look at the facts.

Are they from Sheffield, England? Yes. I might be on to something. Alex Turner and the boys also hail from England's third largest city.

Do they have a song about doors?

And you can't tell me this song doesn't sound at least a little bit like "Old Yellow Bricks" by Arctic Monkeys.

They have five guys instead of four, which is pretty damning evidence they are in fact NOT Arctic Monkeys (though AM started as a 5-piece), but it's obvious that they have some heavy inspiration from their Sheffield compatriots.

It's a promising start for the band, who only have one EP under their belts. Now's the time to get in on the ground floor with these guys while they have just over 5,000 streams on Spotify, though 500 of those might have been streamed during my research.

Let me know what you think of SHEAFS on Twitter!
