It almost sounds like an idea cooked up by a couple kids listening to a punk CD in the 90s, but Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Rancid's Tim Armstrong have created a new punk supergroup under the name, Armstrongs.

Keeping it in the family, Billie Joe's son Joey (who currently plays in the band SWMRS, who are playing The End's Summer Camp 2017 this August) and Tim Armstrong's nephew Rey fill out the band.

Armstrongs' first single "If There Was Ever A Time" can be heard below.

The new track from The Armstrongs follows a simple punk template that seems to fuse the sounds of both Rancid and Green Day including downstroke breakdowns, rockabilly guitar solos, solo verses from both Tim and Billie Joe and an entire section devoted to clapping along with the low tom.

Proceeds from the sales of the track will go to 924 Gilman, an all-ages punk venue that served as an early platform for both bands.

No word yet if the band has reached out to Dido or cycling's bad-boy, Lance.

What do you think of the new track from Armstrongs?
