Everything that has happened since Bertha started digging

The giant drill named "Bertha" that has been boring a new tunnel beneath Seattle is about to finally resurface after clawing its way 9,270 feet underground in harsh conditions for a big ol' drill.

Bertha started drilling on July 30, 2013 and was scheduled to finish in December 2015, but here we are nearly two years later after quite a few technical (and political) difficulties that slowed 'er down. The world is a much different place than it was when the 57-foot drill entered subterranean Seattle (though she momentarily breached in March 2015 for some repairs).

Here's what Bertha missed in the four years she's been super into the underground scene:

July 30, 2013 - Bertha begins her deep-diving quest to replace the earthquake deathtrap Alaskan Way Viaduct was determined to be.

December 2013 - Bertha breaks. Drilling stops. S*** has hit the giant underground fan.

February 2, 2014 - Seahawks win the Super Bowl. Pergolas across the city cry for mercy.

February 7, 2014 - The winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia begin. Much like the plight of Bertha the drill, the Olympics are a total mess.

April 2014 - Filming begins on a brand new Star Wars! Nerds are stoked.

June 12, 2014 - The World Cup begins. Much like the Olympics, it's a total mess.

July 8, 2014 - The first recreational weed store opens in Washington, though Bertha is not yet old enough to hit the bong.

September 16, 2014 - Sounders FC wins Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the fourth time.

October 25, 2014 - Sounders FC clinches the MLS Supporters' Shield for the first time.

December 2014 - As Bertha can not reverse through the hole she has built, a hole begins to be dug above in order to lift the drill up to the surface for repairs. It seems super complicated, but officials assure us this is the only way.

February 1, 2015 - Seahawks lose the Super Bowl because they forgot that Marshawn Lynch played for them on the one-yard line. It is terrible. Pergolas rejoice.

February 26, 2015 - Because of two llamas and a dress, the internet explodes.

March 24, 2015 - As Bertha sits in her self-made grave awaiting help, a fish truck spills on the roadway above creating mayhem for everyone, but mostly for Stefan Frei.

March 31, 2015 - Bertha surfaces for repairs. She has only finished 11 percent of her journey. It's been almost two years.

June 26, 2015 - Gay marriage becomes law of the land in the United States. Washingtonians assemble at the peak of Mt. Rainier to yell  "WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?" into a megaphone.

August 2015: Filming for a second Star Wars begins. Wait, they seriously made two Star Wars while waiting for this tunnel?

November 10, 2015 - Seattle's infamous Gum Wall gets hosed down. It was nasty, you shouldn't be sad about this.

December 2015 - Bertha finally starts drilling again. Bertha was originally scheduled to be done this month. Don't be like Bertha. Oh, and a little movie called The Force Awakens is released.

March 22, 2016 - Bertha's fame is briefly eclipsed by a man in a tree.

April 21, 2016 - Prince died :(

July 2016 - Pokemon Go gets us off our butts. Nerds are stoked.

October 2016 - Wait, people still play Pokemon Go?

December 10, 2016 - Sounders FC wins its first MLS Cup.

December 2016 - We got that second Star Wars movie and holy s*** that tunnel still isn't done?

January 20, 2017 - Donald Trump becomes president of the United States. He hasn't banned drills yet. Bertha is safe.

February 27, 2017 - A taco truck becomes the greatest entrepreneur of all time. #TrafficTacos

After Bertha emerges from the tunnel she has built like the creatures from Tremors, she has a lot to catch up on.
