Father John Misty (AKA J. Tillman) has released a deeply cynical new song titled "Pure Comedy," along with a new video to accompany the track, which you can listen to and watch below.

In light of the recent election, the video uses images of new Vice President Mike Pence, Pepe the Frog, which has become a symbol of the so-called Alt-Right/white supremacy movement, and takes on both sexism, religion, the drug industry and the new Trump administration. Interspliced are dark, hand-drawn comics as well as footage from world events, largely focused on disaster and suffering.

He goes as far as singing "What makes these clowns they idolize so remarkable?" and ends the song with the line "I hate to say it, but each other's all we got."

I like to think of this song as the extended version of his 2016 music festival rant/discussion at a New Jersey music festival.

Music in response to the year's events...well, it appears like it's going to be dark. Settle in.
