This week's Discover & Download band comes to us from London via Los Angeles. Charming Liars caught our attention with their single "Soul" which is available for a free download this week only.

We caught up with the truly indipendent band to get to know the mind behind Charming Liars after releasing their recent EP, 12:31 AM.

Give us a little overview of your last few months. Have you been on the road? Recording? Writing?

We just got off the road from a national tour with bands called Blaqk Audio and Night Riots. It was the first American tour with our new singer and the reaction was eye-opening.

Our latest EP was released at the end of the tour and coming off of it we headed straight into the studio to complete the album. We'll most probably put out a full length at the beginning of next year that'll consist of this latest EP plus six new tracks, so we're in the studio at the moment finishing that so it'll all done and dusted before the second half of the year.

How long have you guys been playing music and how did you first get started?

Mike (bassist) and I have been playing in the band together for over ten years. We started out in school in London and moved over to the states around five years ago. We really just started the band because it was a cool thing to do and we thought it'd be awesome to emulate our favorite rock bands growing up - although we were hideously terrible when we first started out.

How do you approach playing live / what can people expect from your shows?

When we go on stage we really just give it everything. We play every show like it's our last. Our records have a very dynamic feel to them and really bring in a lot of different musical textures but when it comes to live, we boost the guitars and bass a bit try to blast everyone in the crowd. Our live show is sort of a more aggressive version of the records - even the 808 kicks and snares that you hear are boosted so that bass kicks the listener in the butt!

Have you ever played in Seattle/the Northwest? Do you have any memories that stand out?

We just played in Seattle (at the Crocodile) on our last tour and it was one of the craziest shows of the tour. We're coming back to Seattle in August and can't wait. Dates will be announced soon!

What do you hope people get out of your music?

I think we hope that people take something positive away from it. It's not just a lyrical thing, it's a musical thing as well. If people can listen to our music and dance or headbang, then we've achieved something. If they can listen to it and feel better about a certain situation they're in then that's a success too. As long as people are influenced by it and it brings a smile to their faces, that's all we can ask for.
