New Music Discovery: Local Natives release 'Past Lives'

Hear Local Natives' first new song in three years

April 29, 2016

Did you miss Local Natives? I sure did. But our hearts are to be content today as the band released their first new song, 'Past Lives,' in nearly three years on Friday morning.

Listen here:

Here's a Local Natives story for you. One summer in college, I worked as the head chef at a little place called Sunrise Lodge on Mt. Rainier. I stayed mostly in the back, making a couple meals a day for all the employees of the lodge. It's easy to get bored in the back of a kitchen, but good music was what got me through the day.

It happened to be the around the same time Gorilla Manor came out, and it was played on repeat on my crappy old white Macook for most of that summer. The laptop got super greasy, but that album still reminds me of working on the mountain.

'Past Lives' seems to bring the band into a new era, utilizing a bit more electronic influence more reminiscent of their 2013 album, Hummingbird. The driving drums and powerful harmonies are present, so it still sounds like Local Natives to me.

What do you think of the new track? Let us know in the comments below.
