We know why the new Vampire Weekend album might be taking so long. Ezra Koenig has been working on a brand new anime series for Netflix titled Neo Yokio, starring Jaden Smith, Steve Buscemi, Jude Law, Susan Sarandon, Jason Schwartzman, and more.

The first trailer for the series, which will be released September 22, can be seen below.

The series seems to be a somewhat tongue-in-cheek show with plenty of over-the-top action sequences and references to tropes common in more mainstream series. From the trailer, it also could have the deadpan humor Koenig and Jason Schwartzman have both become known for in previous projects.

Jaden Smith voices the show's main character Kaz Kaan, the youngest of a family of demon slayers, though he is more preoccupied with the general issues that come along with being a teenager.

Reviews from anime purists based on the trailer are...well...not good. However, I'll definitely be checking out the series when it drops later this month.

Will you be watching or are you against it?
