Watch a halo go up around the Space Needle during the renovations

September 18, 2017

The Space Needle is going through a pretty big overhaul, a 'Spacelift,' if you will (save your groans for their marketing team, that's what they're calling it), and the renovation requires a pretty big floating platform to be raised to the Space Needle observatory platform.

The process of raising that platform happened at night and looked like a halo was being lifted around the iconic 55-year-old structure. Instagram user Patrick T captured the platform raising in stunning fashion.

Space Lift complete! If you've been wondering about the cables dangling from the @spaceneedle, they were used tonight to raise an elevated platform for the continued $100mln renovation project. ••• #spaceneedle #timelapse #alien #spacelift #instagood #seattle #theevergrey #king5 #nikon #nikond5600 #d5600 #nikonnofilter #nikonlove #amateurphotography #nikonworld_ #nikonphotographers #exploreseattle #upperleftusa #photooftheday #beautiful

The new project is completely redesigning the interior and observation platform and restaurant, giving you floor-to-ceiling 360° views around the building and glass floors below your table when you eat (don't look down or you'll spit out your drink).

You can see renderings of what the new-and-improved Space Needle will look like below.

What do you think about the new look? Will you be venturing up to the top when it reopens or are you content seeing Seattle from the ground?
