Neil deGrasse Tyson is taking his love of space science and making a freakin' video game. Unless it’s Number Munchers (or Word Munchers), I'm pretty skeptical of all learning oriented video games, but when it comes to Captain Space Pants' quest to teach us how the universe works, you’ve got my attention.

Number Munchers

‘Member that? Old school!

Dr. Tyson's got a great voice, killer delivery, and the ability to make me feel better about everything using logic even when it’s Earth-destroying meteor headed right for us ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, after absolutely nailing the remake of the TV show Cosmos, more kids than ever are excited about the wonders of the universe - why not make the next jump to the world of video gaming? Dr. Tyson heads a team bent on making Space Odyssey, a game exploring the science of the galaxy!

Who doesn’t need a little more of that space mustache in your life?!

An all-star team of developers, storytellers, and super physicists will combine talents. They seek to make a game where you  “Develop planets, colonize worlds, nurture species, mine elements, build robots, and discover unique life-forms as you coordinate with others in an intense game of real-time strategy.”

Interestingly, they’re crowd funding it so that while it’s being beta tested, they’ll be able to have development money to implement your feedback and mods and stuff! The goal on the Kickstarter is $314,159 which at first looked random until I realized it's the same six numbers of π (3.14159)! They're hoping to raise the money by the end of July and at the time of writing were about a third of the way there.

They go into way more depth on the Kickstarter page, or check out this quick teaser video:
