The Rubiks Cube World Record Got Broken!

Seriously, the new time in bananas.

Cubing Record is BANANAS

by Gregr

This Rubik's Cube news is mind blowing.

Mats Valk, a one-time 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube world record holder, reset the record this weekend by destroying the official best time. He can solve a Rubik's Cube in less than five seconds. You can't even peel off one sticker that fast (jerk):

Mats floored everyone when he set the record with a 5.55-second solve in 2013. "Oh, that'll never be beaten..." It fell

As someone who's been to 10 sactioned competitions include the U.S. Nationals and the World Championships*, I've seen some pretty crazy cubing. My buddy Nick attempting to blindfolded solve 12 cubes in one hour is right up there.

He memorizes 12 cubes, then pulls down the blindfold.

This record falling is something we definitely did not expect to see happening over and over. Like a baseball player in his 30s (other than Ichiro), the sheer reflexes required to accomplish this are something that I've lost simply due to age.

Their brains are processing so many conditions, stickers, and responses. Imagine a time in your life when you didn't have to pay rent. Instead, you did pointless homework and goofed on whatever thing you loved, be it soccer, ballet, or Rubik's Cubes!
