Weezer Announce New Album, Not a Joke

Just by looking at the cover you should be able to guess the name...

I love how a band can be both extremely predictable and completely impossible to understand all at the same time. Weezer announced they have a new album ready for your delicate, judgy little ears. On April 1st - they promise it's no joke - the band will release their 10th album and it's again self-titled Weezer. It's the fourth time they've done this. One look at the art above and you guessed - the White Album... Predictable!

So far, the songs we've heard were released without context or any semblance of a plan. Just a couple years back we started getting music from the band that sounded like a concentrated return to their roots, and now we find ourselves with Weezer being weezer-y and stepping outside our idea of what they should sound like. I love it. Here's what they had to say about the new album on weezer.com:

"Our new self titled album will be out on April 1st (this is not a joke), and we’re going on tour this summer (this is also not a joke).

This album was inspired by my experiences hanging around the Westside of Los Angeles, which has been our home since Weezer began. Hanging out with people in Venice and Santa Monica, the beach, the Hare Krishnas, the Sikh on roller blades with the guitar, girls on Tinder within a 4 mile radius, seeing other bands, etc. I would just tweet out “does anybody wanna hang?” and then I’d get together with people who responded and talk about life. I love California. I wanted the album to have a Beach Boys sort of vibe to make you feel like you were there with us SoCal weirdos even if you’re in Milwaukee in December."

I have a hard time believing the stuff they say sometimes - isn't Rivers married with kids - what's he doing on Tinder?

Here's a third new song, "King of the World". You'll get this plus "Thank God For Girls" and "Do You Wanna Get High" when you pre-order on iTunes.
