Josh Tillman freaks out on fan for bunny accusation!

October 6, 2013

Well...he tried to freak out on the fan but he just couldn't do it with a straight face.  After the "incident" Josh Tillman aka Father John Misty stated it was his hope to find that headline for an article on the Huffington Post.  I don't have that kind of clout so the Li ve Music Blog will have to do for now.

A hopeless romantic and a depressing pessimist all rolled into one intensely entertaining man with the sexiest head of hair in showbiz, Father John Misty dazzled the audience at the Moore Theater on Sunday night with a solo acoustic performance.  Well, sort of solo.  He was accompanied on stage by a woman wearing a big bunny head with big...well, she was kind of freaking me out.  I swear she/the bunny was staring at me.  My eyes kept getting drawn to the big bunny eyes and her big...well...I don't know, it confused me and I think I liked it.

I digress...Father John Misty has an incredible voice.  His songs are beautiful, his banter is always hilarious.  Earlier in the year when he performed at the Neptune accompanied by his band it felt like a completely different show.  This was a much more relaxed, happier version of Father John Misty.  I didn't sense the underlying hostility I've felt watching him in the past.  There was no booze on stage which I admit I kind of missed.  He played quite a few songs from his upcoming album as well as all the favorites from one of my favorite albums released in 2012 'Fear Fun'.

A woman behind me whom I am certain did not omit the booze from her night was really, really frustrated by her cell phone camera.  She just couldn't get the darn thing to work.  When she did the flash was on flashlight mode and she didn't seem to understand that since it was an acoustic set the volume of her voice was louder than the performer on stage.  In what I consider to be one of the greatest moments of irony in concert history Father John Misty called for a new stage prop...a giant cell phone framing him in the center.  He stated that this was clearly the favorite view of artists for concert goers these days.  Sadly, the irony was lost on my friend behind us as she continued to talk through the process of clearing her cache of images to create more room in for more photos.  I hope she got the shot.  After the prop had run its course Josh said something profound..."Ideas you come up with when you're stoned are only stupid if they aren't executed."  So true.

Starting the night right was a brilliant comedian Kate Berlant whose humor was so dry that some jokes I didn't get until the show had ended.  She was hilarious and profound at the same time.  I was quite thrilled to get one of her bracelets tossed my way during her performance.  On a side note:  Comedians opening for musicians and vice versa is a trend I really hope catches on.  I loved the change of pace!

Seriously!  Tell me that bunny isn't staring right at me!
