#sEATtle: Ciudad and Noodle Gang Did a Pop Up and I Ate All of It!

I like to eat. A lot. Food is bae. Therefore, I figured I would post reviews of the places I go to give you a little insight and maybe some ideas on where you might want to nom with your friends or special someones. Plus, it gives me an excuse to pig out on Seattle's best eats and not feel bad about it, because work!

Before we start, though, I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am NOT a professional food nerd, nor do I want to be. I don't know the intricacies of French cooking. Heck, I don't even know how to spell "intricacies." It also means that if you ask me what the best burger is, I'll probably say Lil Woody's before I suggest any kind of "gourmet" burger, unless that gourmet burger has an egg on it. Then gourmet burger wins (any burger with an egg on it wins really.) Also, my idea of a fancy pizza is anything with more than two toppings. Basically what I'm getting at is consider these restaurant reviews for the common man/woman.

Last week my homies from Noodle Gang decided to throw a pop up with the help of Chef Aaron Willis of Ciudad, and Do 206. The theme was "From the Streets" which meant the menu featured dishes that were inspired by South East Asian street foods and the music of Wu-Tang Clan! That meant noodles, sticky buns, and massive amounts of RZA and Old Dirty Bastard.  I HAD TO CHECK IT OUT, YOU GUYS!  How was it? Lets recap....


Bangkok Cocktail.  They also had a Sake Sangria but I went with this rum inspired drink.....and then want back for another......and another.  Picture a sweeter version of an Old Fashioned. 



Pork Belly Sticky Buns- This may be controversial but for me, pork belly > bacon.  Great pork belly > anything.  A perfect way to start the meal, the sticky bun was super sweet, while the pork belly was melt in your mouth tender and salted really well.  The slaw on top added a touch of crunch. Really well done, although i had a chili pepper in my second bun and ended up nuking my taste buds for a good 10 minutes. For the uninitiated, this basically tasted like the fanciest McRib you've ever had. 

Burnt Honey and Ginger Wings- I always complain about the lack of buffalo wing places in Seattle and it really bums me out because Seattle chefs are SO good at frying chicken.  These weren't even close to as sweet as you are thinking they would be from the name.  Chef Willis' secret weapon seems to be his mastery of salt.  None of these dishes were under or over salted, which isn't easy when dealing with so many flavors in each dish.  I could've eaten a dozen of these, and if I could get them on Sundays for football, I would order them every week of the season. Really good. 

Dueling Noodles!  Balinese Fried Noodle With Shredded Chicken vs Vegetable Laksa with Cocunut Curry Broth- This is a weird one, because to be honest, there really wasn't anything special or unique about the fried noodles, and yet I haven't stopped thinking about them.  I would literally eat 3 lbs of them for dinner right now if I could, but I can't really pinpoint why I liked them so much, other than the fact that who on Earth doesn't like noodles and chicken?  I need to write an email to Chef Willis to beg him to open a noodle and wings food truck...and park it outside my appartment. 



Forbidden Rice Porridge- I'm not much of a dessert guy, and after licking my noodle plate clean I didn't have much room for this. That said, if you are a rice pudding guy, you would totally nom this. 


Pop ups are the coolest, and take SO much work to put together. Shout outs to Ciudad for hosting a great night. Shout outs to DJs Soffos and Ca$h Bandicoot. And MAJOR shout outs to Chef Willis for planning a kick ass menu and then executing it perfectly for one night only.  Bravo!  Hey Chef, seriously though, noodle and wings cart. I got $3.fiddy on it. 


Go here if...Well, you really can't because it was a one night thing, but if Ciudad's food is anywhere as good as this, go there! 

Don't go here if...You want a big menu and hate the Wu-Tang Clan. You monster.
