#sEATTLe: Great State

September 9, 2016

I like to eat. A lot. Food is bae. Therefore, I figured I would post reviews of the places I go to give you a little insight and maybe some ideas on where you might want to nom with your friends or special someones. Plus, it gives me an excuse to pig out on Seattle's best eats and not feel bad about it, because work!

Before we start though, I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am NOT a professional food nerd, nor do I want to be. I dont know the intricacies of French cooking. Heck, I dont even know how to spell "intricacies." It also means that if you ask me what the best burger is, I'll probably say Lil Woody's before I suggest any kind of "gourmet" burger, unless that gourmet burger has an egg on it. Then gourmet burger wins (any burger with an egg on it wins really.) Also, my idea of a fancy pizza is anything with more than two toppings. Basically what I'm getting at is consider these restaurant reviews for the common man/woman.

Got it? Good, let's roll!

Great State

2041 7th Ave

Last night the NFL season officially kicked off, so you know I had six too many beers and two too many whiskeys to celebrate.

Unfortunately that meant I woke up this morning feeling like Cam Newton, which if you watched last night's game, is not good. That alarm clock came too soon this morning and to my chagrin the breakfast of Advil and PSL did nothing to cure the pounding headache that accompanied me to work.

Thankfully my tummy wasn't a wreck, and Postmates FINALLY accepted my order to Great State (more on this later), a place I had tried a few times before but never lived up to the hype.

Would the 3rd time be a charm? Would it cure my weekly Friday morning hangover? Or would it cause more damage than good?  On to the food porn....

The Double - Two patties of organic grass-fed beef. American cheese, lettuce, pickle, tomato, state sauce - On paper this checks all the boxes for sure. The state sauce is legit (just ketchup and mayo as far as i can tell) and the cheese is really flavorful, but I have to be honest, every time I've eaten here, the burger patties are a little too tough for my liking. I'm pretty sure this is due to the fact that they press their burgers?

Crinkle Cut Fries - I may have a few major issues with the burger, but I have nothing but high praise for their crinkle fries!  First of all, they are salted perfectly and come with a side of state sauce. Secondly, is there anything that makes you feel like a kid again as much as eating some crinkle fries?  I don't know why that is at all, but it happens.

For some reason it is next to impossible to get this burger delivered through Postmates, which is a major issue for my lazy ass.

"But Manley," you say "why don't you just walk there? It's not that far from your office!"

Get out of here with that! When it comes to lunch, I am Veruca Salt in this mofo, I want my food and I want it NOW. On at least four occasions I had my order cancelled due to them being too busy to cook it...despite the fact it was originally accepted. I don't know if thats a Postmates issue or a Great State issue, but I can tell you its been bugging me forever and probably led me to set my expectations a little too high. Because of that, and because of the pressed patties, I can't say it cracks the top three of my favorite burgers in Seattle.

Very good, and some people will absolutely love it and call me crazy for not, but not good enough for me to make it a burger "must."

Go here if...You want a better version of Steak and Shake or Dick's.

Don't go here if... You are a fan of thick, juicy burger patties.
