#sEATtle: Nirmal's

April 28, 2017

I like to eat. A lot. Food is bae. Therefore, I figured I would post reviews of the places I go to give you a little insight and maybe some ideas on where you might want to nom with your friends or special someones. Plus, it gives me an excuse to pig out on Seattle's best eats and not feel bad about it, because work!

Before we start, though, I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am NOT a professional food nerd, nor do I want to be. I don't know the intricacies of French cooking. Heck, I don't even know how to spell "intricacies." It also means that if you ask me what the best burger is, I'll probably say Lil Woody's before I suggest any kind of "gourmet" burger, unless that gourmet burger has an egg on it. Then gourmet burger wins (any burger with an egg on it wins really.) Also, my idea of a fancy pizza is anything with more than two toppings. Basically what I'm getting at is consider these restaurant reviews for the common man/woman.

Got it? Good, let's roll!

I've been down in Pioneer Square a lot lately, and that's a problem, because I don't have any spots down there. So before I hit up the xx show earlier this week, I popped in to Nirmal's to give it a shot. I mean, who doesn't like Indian food, you guys?  Would it finally get me to order something besides chicken tikka masala? Lets find out!

Vegetable Pakoras- Think of this dish as the Indian version of veggie tempura.  Peppers, shrooms, and cauliflower all fried nice and crisp.  There wasn't much flavor to the breading if I'm being honest, but perfectly good none the less.

Naan- As someone who is carb positive, I love a good naan.  Nirmal's naan is great!  So great, in fact, that I may or may not have ordered some during the appetizer course, then more during the mains.

Stuffed Chicken- I'm really kicking myself because for the life of me I can't remember what this was called, but it was my favorite dish of the night. Yes it looks like, well, nothing good. But don't let that fool you, that's kind of the thing about Indian food. 10 times out of 10 it tastes better than it looks.

Dungeness Crab- After an intense stare down with this dish (which I lost btw) I broke off a claw and started doing work!  Sure it was super super messy, but that's why I ordered an extra order of naan.  Screw the napkins, wipe your hands with some bread and then eat that too! FOR THE EARTH!!!

I am a novice when it comes to Indian food, so its entirely possible I missed the point with the fried veggies, and I wasn't supposed to use the naan as a crab napkin, but I can definitely say that Nirmal's is an amazing place to eat.  The service was awful for us when we were there, but all of these wonderful plates of food more than made up for it.  Nirmal's won a ton of awards last year and for good reason!  If you like Indian, this place is a MUST.
