I like to eat. A lot. Food is bae. So I figured I would post little reviews of the places I go, to give you a little insight and maybe some ideas on where you might want to nom with your friends or special someones. Plus it gives me an excuse to pig out on Seattle's best eats and not feel bad about it, because work! Before we start though, I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am NOT a professional food nerd, nor do I want to be. I dont know the intricacies of French cooking. Heck, I dont even know how to spell "intricacies." It also means that if you ask me what the best burger is, I'll probably say Lil Woody's before I suggest any kind of "gourmet" burger, unless that gourmet burger has an egg on it. Then gourmet burger wins (any burger with an egg on it wins really.) Also, my idea of a fancy pizza is anything with more than 2 toppings. Basically what I'm getting at is consider these restaurant reviews for the comman man/woman. Got it? Good, let's roll!!!

Being a product of the 90's, I'm conditioned to throw a major side eye at anything labeled "best of" because, hey man, don't tell me what to like okay! Because of that, I went to Stateside with a very skeptical stance because just about everyone in Seattle (and quite a few national publications) has named it the best restaurant of 2015.  Did they win me over? Read on to find out! **WARNING** Massive food porn on the way....

 

STARTERS-

Brussels Sprouts. I don't mean to be crude, but goddam these were good!  I've said before that at this point brussels sprouts have been done a zillion times so it takes A LOT to get me excited for this dish. Somehow this did the trick, and this really set the tone for what was to come. 

Snap Peas.  Is there anything coconut milk doesnt make better? The answer is no. The proof is this dish.

Duck Rolls. I've never had a duck dish that I liked (too oily or something?), so I knew I was about to have the meal of a lifetime when I found myself devouring these rolls.  I literally went from almost passing on these to ordering a second helping.  I can't think of a more complimentary statement than "I don't even like duck but these are awesome." SO GOOD.

NOT PICTURED BUT VERY IMPORTANT TO MENTION- Amberjack Crudo.  They aren't pictured because they were gone before I could even get my phone out.  I could've kept eating bites of this until it made me sick and would've been totally okay with it.  Maybe my favorite bite of food all year, you guys.  Seriously.

 

MAINS-

Soy Glazed Beef Short Ribs-  Stateside also offers a chili cumin pork rib that looks absolutely mouth watering, and I was kind of hoping someone would order it (I would've but I mean, fat kid status ya feel me?) This was honestly good but not great.  A touch dry. 

Cha Ca La Vong- OR black cod marinated in turmeric and galangal, rice vermicelli, fresh dill, cilantro, mint, and peanuts- I was torn between this and the fried chicken (more on that in a second) and honestly I wouldn't have been disappointed with either. There is an art to cooking fish, and Stateside should teach a class. If the outside isn't crisp, this is a bowl of mush.  If overcooked, this becomes a rubbery mess. Fortunately it was neither, and therefore the perfect dinner option if you are looking for something on the light side. 

Master Stock Crispy Chicken- free range chicken, poached and then fried.  BRUUUUUUUUUH!  Real talk, this is the best fried chicken I've ever had.  I would order 2 helpings and eat them both myself while watching football on Sundays if I could.  I will never become a vegetarian because of this chicken. I was literally reduced to laughter after tasting this.  It was THAT good.  Direct quote- "I'm so glad you got and order of this too, because I won't be sharing." The skin was perfectly crisped, spicy and super salty (but not too), while the meat was somehow still so juicy that it almost made you nervous that it wasn't fully cooked through (it was). Any way you want to judge fried chicken, and let's be honest we all really judge it by the skin, this WINS. 

 

You know when you listen to a rap song with an unexpectedly amazing guest verse that somehow takes an already great song to the next level (Nikki Manaj on Kanye West's Monster (yes really!) or Eminem on Jay-Z's Renegade)? That's what this meal was like. I loved every bite of food and then the fried chicken showed up, spit some bars and blew everything else away. Even better, this meal was like a super group. STATESIDE IS THE FOOD VERSION OF THE WU-TANG CLAN! Every bite important and amazing in their own right, but together, unstoppable.

On a scale of 1-10 restaurant of the years, Stateside gets 10/10 restaurant of the years!

FINAL VERDICT- Stateside meals ain't nothing to F*** with!
