#sEATtle; Westward

July 22, 2016

I like to eat. A lot. Food is bae. Therefore, I figured I would post reviews of the places I go to give you a little insight and maybe some ideas on where you might want to nom with your friends or special someones. Plus, it gives me an excuse to pig out on Seattle's best eats and not feel bad about it, because work!

Before we start though, I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am NOT a professional food nerd, nor do I want to be. I dont know the intricacies of French cooking. Heck, I dont even know how to spell "intricacies." It also means that if you ask me what the best burger is, I'll probably say Lil Woody's before I suggest any kind of "gourmet" burger, unless that gourmet burger has an egg on it. Then gourmet burger wins (any burger with an egg on it wins really.) Also, my idea of a fancy pizza is anything with more than two toppings. Basically what I'm getting at is consider these restaurant reviews for the comman man/woman.

Got it? Good, let's roll!

Westward certainly has one the best views of any restaurant in Seattle, but I judge a restaurant with my stomach and not my eyes. Was the food up to par? Lets find out!

Oysters: You guys, I FINALLY remembered to write down which kinds I had. Wildcat Cove (my favs). SummerStone. Hammersley Inlet. Baywater Sweet (incredible) Wellfleet.

Lox:  That's basically fancy talk for smoked salmon. And this version is a fancy version of lox. INCEPTION!

Albacore: Quickly becoming my favorite bite of food on any menu. I didn't really need any of the extra stuff on the plate, but it sure looked nice!

Roasted Potatoes: Look at these things. They are the most perfectly round papas I've ever seen!  Tasty too!

Grilled Octopus:  I think everyone has an octopus dish on their menu now, right?  Octopus is the new brussels sprouts!  This was very good. If it was taken off the grill one minute sooner, it would have been great.

Olive oil poached Halibut

Pan Roasted Black Cod: This was really good but another example of leaving it in the pan for one minute longer than necessary.

Wood Oven Roasted Trout: Growing up in the Midwest meant that I was really far away from any oceans, hence I gravitate more towards fresh-water fish when offered the option.  Thankfully, Seattle does some of the best trout I've ever had. This was no exception. Plus, anything swimming in brown butter is delicious by default amirite?

All of the Desserts!  Affogato is a shot of espresso with a scoop of ice cream and it is my jam!

Final Verdict: Sitting in the sun while sipping a martini is always a recipe for a good time.  When you can combine it with some great oysters, good friends, and one ridiculously good grilled trout (that your waitress filets for you while singing Ray Charles songs), you are living right.  The view beats the food, but that view beats almost any food..and not by much.

Go Here If... You want to eat some great food that won't leave you feeling like you'll sink like a stone if you accidentally fall off their patio and into Lake Union.

Don't Go Here If... You demand perfection.  Westward is allllllllllllmost phenominal. As if to say its really really good but not great. As if to say, you want to eat here for sure.
