SXSW Day 3: White Reaper steals the show

And some band that rhymes with Deck is about to drop some bombs

March 21, 2016

Greetings from Austin, Texas and the South By Southwest Music Festival, the epicenter of the music world for the next few days. Since I like music and you like muaic (and someone was dumb enough to give me all access passes to everything) I thought it would be cool to share my experiences with you.

10 Things from Day 3 at SXSW

  1. Woke up with no voice. And I mean none. Must've lost it last night somewhere between Bloc Party and 3 a.m. pizza.

  2. THE most beautiful voice I've heard this week was from a tiny blond girl busking on a street corner. Stopped us dead in our tracks. I wonder if we'll all be listening to her on the radio in a few years.

  3. Wednesday night I saw some of my favorite Seattle bands, last night I saw some of my favorite Seattle friends. Our city is more than well-represented here.

  4. I was taken to a beautiful house on the outskirts of town. Usually that's how horror movies begin, but in this case it was to hear new stuff from a guy whose name rhymes with Deck. Wooooooow was it good. That's a joke that will make sense to you in three months, trust.

  5. There's never enough time to see or hang with everyone, and it kind of bums me out.

  6. Lewis del Mar probably played one of the most important shows of their career and nailed it! If you like bands like Alt-J or Boots, check them out.

  7. There's a store here that sells hundreds of old band shirts. I almost spent way too much money on way too many of them.

  8. While writing this, I have the NCAA tournament on in the background. It's the first hoops I've watched all tournament, and as a sports nut that's pretty terrible. That said, if you miss a game to eat nachos and chill with Barns Courtney, so be it.

  9. I have crossed paths with George Clinton no less than 17 times this weekend.

  10. I finally saw Beach Slang last night, and they were everything. White Reaper was also on the bill and they put on my favorite set of the entire weekend, hands down. "We are White Reaper and we are here to set s*** off!" And they did. They came, they saw, they spend half their set stage-diving, they conquered!

TL;DR

Who I Saw: Lewis del Mar / White Reaper / Hockey / something I forget / Beach Slang.

Best Band of Day 3: White Reaper!!!

Noms: Mostly hotel restaurant food. Kind of disappointed in myself about this. I'll do better today.

Plan for Day 4: Seeing Kaleo and going to try to eat some BBQ or tacos. Other than that I'm going where the wind blows me and that sounds just fine.
