4 Seattle bands and artists who could break out in 2018

December 29, 2017

With the swell of talent in the Seattle area (always) it isn't really a question of IF one of these Locals Only artists is going to blow up. It's more a question of who and when. These are some of the artists I would bet it all on in 2018 and I can't wait to see what they do.

All the tourist attractions in Seattle that locals should actually do

Ruler

This is a project I have been excited about since over four years ago when I was asked to just be a guest on Locals Only. One of the songs I played on the show that day was called "Keep Moving" by a band called Ruler. From the first time I heard that track, I've been expecting Ruler to be the next big thing. Seeing frontman Matt Batey on stage only convinced me more and more that it was meant to be. But where was the album?

It was recently announced that Seattle-based Barsuk Records signed Ruler and the debut album will finally be out in 2018. This is just the best news. Oh, and Ruler is our Locals Only Artist of The Month in January, so get ready to hear so much "Easy Life" on The End.

Taylar Elizza Beth

I might be a little late to the Taylar Elizza Beth party but her Fresh Cut Flowers EP hooked me and I have a feeling the Seattle rapper is nowhere near her ceiling. That's saying something considering how strong Fresh Cut Flowers was. These five tracks were a breath of fresh air with a very distinct sound. I don't know about everybody else, but it left me saying "WHOA! More please."

Dave B

I saw Dave B open a show at The Crocodile a few years ago. To be honest, it was an accident. I was just trying to show up for the headliner (yes, I am sometimes that dude) and I got there a little early. From the moment I walked in he had me, and everybody else in the crowd for that matter. Fast forward to late 2017 and here is Dave B releasing his album Pearl and making me rearrange my "Best of 2017" list.

Releasing a great album isn't always enough to make that jump and go next level, but the hype around Dave B has been real for a while and the Macklemore bump can't hurt. Just go watch the Fallon performance of "Corner Store" and tell me that Dave B doesn't haven't have next.

SISTERS

If I were to pick a Locals Only Artist of The Year for 2017 it would hands down be SISTERS. Aside from just generally seeming like they are having more fun than anybody out there, SISTERS had a monster year in 2017. They released two amazing full length albums this year, played the main stage at the Sasquatch! Music Festival AND they signed a record deal with Tender Loving Empire. That is a huge year and future just looks brighter and brighter. I can't even imagine what Emily and Andrew are going to do next, but I bet it's awesome.
