As if Mondays aren't bad enough already, this Monday was extra rough. Local soul/funk group Fly Moon Royalty announced that after six years they are calling it quits.

The below announcement was delivered to fans via social media on Monday:

"Dear Friends, Family, Fans & Supporters

We want to let you know a couple things.
1. We have a REALLY special show at Neumos on
Friday Dec 23rd and we want you to be there.
2. This show will be our very last performance. (Yes, like LAST last)
...
All things come to an end. At the end of this
year Fly Moon Royalty will no longer be playing shows or making new music.

We really appreciate all the love & support these past 6 years. It’s been an amazing ride. We feel very fortunate to have been able to share our music with so many people. I hope that you bump our music for a thousand years.

Thanks for watching, Thanks for listening & Thanks for riding with us.

Adra & Mike

Now….let’s celebrate funky music with one last dance party."

All the best Local Music, all in one spot

If you aren't familiar with Fly Moon Royalty then you have missed one hell of a ride.

Sure, they don't play their final show until December 23, but my mourning starts now. So naturally I need to take a walk down memory lane with some of my favorite Fly Moon Royalty experiences.

The first time I saw Fly Moon Royalty live they were performing on the Vera stage at Capitol Hill Block Party. As I walked up they started playing a cover of the Sir Mix-A-Lot classic "Baby Got Back" and I was sold. Later that day I got to interview Adra and Mike for Google+ (remember Google+?). Between their performance and the way they carried themselves in the interview, it was clear these two knew how to have a good time.

The good times with Fly Moon Royalty just kept coming

Once when they were about to play an outdoor show a lightning storm suddenly erupted above them. Adra and Mike had the choice of calling the show off (and still getting paid) or moving the show to a small restaurant a few blocks away. They decided to move the show indoors and they rocked the hell out of that place. Patrons who clearly just wanted to eat dinner in peace ended up on the dance floor with drink in hand and nobody complained.

Fly Moon Royalty's ability to have the best times extends beyond their live show and is on full display in any of their music videos. Their videos are creative, theatrical and just fun to watch. Check a few below:

"Grown Man"

"Lemonade"

"DNA"

Remember that "Baby Got Back" cover I talked about earlier? Well, they can slow jam it, too.

Speaking of covers, how about a little Madonna?

While this is sad news for sure, let's be glad for the six years of party starting and great music Fly Moon Royalty has given us.

Don't miss your chance to celebrate with Adra and Mike one more time at Neumos on December 23 for Fly Moon Royalty's Last Dance. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 11.
