Locals Only: Best New Music This Week

September 21, 2018

Wild Powwers by Ron Harrell

There was a load of great new music and music videos from some of our favorite local artists this week. Here are some of the releases you can’t miss.

Smokey Brights – Different Windows EP

We have been playing the title track from this project ever since Kim and Ryan of Smokey Brights came by Locals Only for the radio premier. The rest of the songs on the Different Windows EP deliver in every way. Enjoy these songs live when the band plays R-Day (FREE) with The Helio Sequence and The Moondoggies on 10/6.

Wild Powwers - Skin (music video)

Seattle rockers Wild Powwers have just released a new video for the title track from their forthcoming album Skin due out October 12th on Nadine Records. The video for "Skin" seems like a pretty good representation of how the band like to do stuff. Loud and with destruction in mind.

somesurprises - alt

On Sunday night I had Emma and Natasha of Red Ribbon in studio for Locals Only. The pair explained to me that Natasha has a band called somesurprises where she is the singer/songwriter and Emma plays bass. We played an older somesurprises track and I fell in love. So I was thrilled to find they were releasing their new alt EP this week. This release is 21 minutes of perfect life soundtrack for just about whatever is going on. Crank down or amp way up with this new stuff from somesurprises.

SYML - Clean Eyes

Just when I thought I thought I had SYML figured out... BOOM! Here comes the new single "Clean Eyes." Right when I thought SYML was going to zig, this dude just had to zag instead. This is a little less dreamy and headed much more in a power pop direction and I am certainly not mad about it. I can't wait to keep watching what SYML does next.

Sleeping Lessons - Chasing Ghosts (music video)

A couple of years back Seattle band Sleeping Lessons released their album Red Sprites. Now they have released a music video for their song Chasing Ghosts and gotten me all excited about whatever it is they have in store for the future.
