Locals Only Playlist: December 2nd with Valley Maker and Smokey Brights

December 3, 2018

Supported by Rainier Beer

Locals Only was pretty amazing this week. In the first hour of the show I had Kim and Ryan of Seattle band Smokey Brights in the studio. We talked about their upcoming performance at The Neptune Theatre this Thursday (12/6). The event is called Seattle On Ice and the bill includes Cumulus, The True Loves, and All Star Opera. We talked about what a big deal it is for the band to be headlining The Neptune and some of the plans they are making for their performance. To make things even better the pair played two acoustic songs on air.

In the second hour of the show I was joined by Austin Crane of Valley Maker. In October Crane released the new Valley Maker album Rhododendron through French Kiss Records. It's amazing. There is no use in me trying to dress it up with flowerly words. The long and short of it is that he made a beautiful album that deserves all of our attention.

Crane told the story about how he came to Seattle from his home of South Carolina to pursue music and his PhD in Geography. He talked about his love of artists like Damien Jurado and David Bazan and how he came to make his new album with Chaz Bear of Toro Y Moi. He also played two live songs on air.

You can see Valley Maker perform at Barboza on December 6th with local band Ings.
