Ten Years of Skating Polly

If you’ve ever seen Skating Polly live or listened to their music it is very possible that you thought to yourself “wow, this band is going places.” That is a completely reasonable thought because Skating Polly is a very good band. You’d sort of be wrong though. Skating Polly isn’t just going places. They’ve already been places. All over the world in fact.

It’s not your fault that you were wrong. To look at Skating Polly you probably wouldn’t expect that the band has been around for ten years. TEN YEARS. That’s because when they got started Peyton was 14 and Kelli was only 9! Ten years later their brother Kurtis joined the band on drums and they are all old hands at this music thing having toured all over the world playing with the likes of Kate Nash, The Flaming Lips, Band Of Horses and X.

I first found the band when I saw their music video for the song “Nothing More Than A Body” and have loved their brand of ugly pop and rad music videos ever since.

Over the years they’ve kept up the amazing work releasing one of my favorite albums of 2018 with The Make It All Show.

You don't make it ten years as a band without marking the occasion and Skating Polly is doing just that.

"Me and Peyton have been planning our 10th anniversary show in our heads probably since the Halloween party where we formed our band. We always knew we were in this for the long haul & having Kurtis with us now has kept this whole process super fresh & opened up all sorts of new possibilities. It’s kinda crazy that we still are so close & are genuinely all looking forward to the 20th anniversary. It’s been unreal. We’ve accomplished actual DREAMS already, but at the same time, it feels like we’re just getting started" said Kelly Mayo of being together for a decade.

This Saturday night (11/2) Skating Polly will celebrate their ten year anniversary at The Vera Project. They will be joined by local bands Monsterwatch and The Fame Riot. This is an amazing local lineup and all three of these bands are completely insane to see live. I fully endorse this lineup and every band involved.

Congratulations on ten years Skating Polly. I can't wait to see what you do with ten more.
