So, it's my first Christmas in Seattle and my new friends knew that I had to make the pilgramage to a nearby community that emerses itself in Christmas. So they packed me in the car for the 3 hour journey east for a weekend trip to Leavenworth, WA. First of all, coming from Chicago, which is extremely flat, the drive through the snow covered mountians around Stevens Pass was beautiful. I kept saying "I can't believe I live here!"

Stevens Pass

Once you hit town, you feel trasnported to a small town in Germany. Every sign in the town is written in Bavarian script, even the chain stores we all know! I was prepared for the cold and the possiblility of snow or rain, but intead, the sun came out... and so did the people!  Man, there were people everywhere! It added to the festive vibe.

My friends have obvioulsy done this trip a few times and knew the ins and outs, which I'm thankful for. We went straight to an amazing restaurant for some pretty authentic German food and some warm spiced rum (I'm pacing myself now). Then it was a basically a pub crawl sampling warm spiced wines. Getting toasty warm before the lighting ceremony!

Leavenworth day

The time had come.  The entire crowd took part in counting down to the moment they flipped the switch and lit up the whole town with Christmas lights. It was magical!

I'm a little jealous of all these lights. I'm going to have to up my display at home next year (I guess I'm a competitive person.) I was a great weekend get away, I only wish there was snow when we went but there's always next year!
