VINYL DIG: Republica 'Out Of This World' - DECONSTRUCTION

Chemical Brothers (Dust Brothers) Remix

August 18, 2016

Every week, I dig through my record collection. Sometimes it's to discover long forgotten gems or B-sides. Other times it's to clean house and lighten the load. Here's what surfaced from the stack this week:

Record: Republica Out Of This World

Year: 1995

Track: Out Of This World (Chemical Brothers Remix)

Why do I have this record?

I was all about everything break beat in this era, and anything Chem Bros was a guaranteed belter. This was originally released in ’94 as a Dust Brother Remix, before changing their name to avoid confusion with the L.A. production duo who worked on Beastie Boys Paul’s Boutique, Beck’s Odelay and the Fight Club sound track. It's all very confusing I know.

How was it originally received?

Bonkers, some of their best work. Clean production and wicked samples.

Has it stood the test of time?

It sounds very much from the mid 90's era, Chem Bros made absolutely sure they owned it. The 90s sound has come back around so sounds as fresh as it did on day 1.
