Can You Hold My Pineapple?

When's the last time you carried a pineapple three miles?

We all should definitely do the Winter Pineapple Classic next year. If I start a 1077 The End team, will you join me? Let me show you how awesome it was at Marymoor last weekend!

First, it helps raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - from young kids, to our older sisters, to aging parents, blood and lymphatic system cancers kill. Nothing fun about that. It's the fun things we can do to challenge ourselves to help defeat these cancers that help add balance to the families, friends and survivors. The LLS hosts a bunch of exciting events each year to raise the funds, but this was my first time experiencing the fun in the mud at the Winter Pineapple Classic.

Ok, the gist - this is a 5k with a bunch of awesome obstacles - some of which are pretty challenging, but nothing makes it more lighthearted than having to carry around your own pineapple throughout the course!

There were a variety of challenging things to climb over, duck under, and run through, plus, it really helps to break up the monotony of just plain ol' running (yuck). It started simply enough... if you're tall like me! To be fair, I didn't get to run this year. You should probably watch this video of me doing an obstacle called The Ninja Warrior.

The warning, "careful it's slippery at the top", was barely enough info! Grab that handrail when heading over!

This next one is a bunch of bungee cords stretched back and forth and that seemed hard enough until Ruby the street teamer suggested it's a good thing that they're not lasers... correct. I went ahead and drew in some lasers...

Nope.

Actually... yup! #height

Nothing like a giant SLIP N SLIDE in the rain!!

This was a tough way to end the fun course (that, remember, I didn't actually run). Getting over the top and back down looked like the hardest part. It's two Gregr's tall!

The excitement wasn't just on the track, no. The costumes people wear to these events are usually super fun, too. Take these bees and their beekeeper! No way that white suits stays clean!

And finally, I wish I had been smarter (not surprising) and caught the name of this group that learns about Hawaiian heritage and culture and passes it down through the generations. From little kids to full grown adults, their performances (in what felt like a light Hawaiian drizzle) were something I'd never seen in Seattle!

I hope that next year you'll join me to run around and get muddy. I'm certain that we're all just a degree or two away from a friend of family member that's battled through some type of cancer, specifically leukemia or one of the many lymphatic afflictions. I probably don't have to start training yet, right?
