Locals Only Artist of the Month: Sisters

November 4, 2014

Seattle has long been a frontier town that attracts musicians who want to invent and reinvent – from Jimi Hendrix to Kurt Cobain to the next unnamed musical star. While the sound may change from decade to decade, the Northwest’s music scene is as vibrant as ever. And here at The End we feel it’s important to help put our homegrown talent in the forefront by giving you a taste of our cities musical richness.

Bio
Quickly garnering attention as the new band to watch, SISTERS’ style is the perfect blend of formal musical training and inherent creativity, topped with expert pop sensibility. Marked by complex harmonies, unpredictable melodies, and layered rhythmic patterns, Emily Westman (Barsuk's Blunt Mechanic, Lemolo) and Andrew Vait (Eternal Fair) cover more ground than should be possible for two musicians. Andrew’s powerfully dynamic vocals blend unexpectedly with Emily’s gentle croon to produce a unique timbre, soaring over undeniable rhythmic groove. Their live performances are like a lesson in multi-tasking, as they each play keys, synth, guitar, drums, percussion, and table. SISTERS’ energy is infectious and each song captivates ears and hearts alike.

Emily and Andrew first met while attending the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. A series of fateful decisions, largely made independently of one another, brought them both to the Pacific Northwest, where they danced proverbial circles around each other in various musical projects, before ultimately coming together to form SISTERS in the spring of 2014. Their first few appearances included supporting Allen Stone, playing Capitol Hill Block Party and Fisherman’s Village Music Festival.

Their debut EP, Diamonds of Gold, was released on September 23rd, 2014. The five-track EP was recorded with Chris Mathews Jr. in Seattle, WA and features their haymaker track, "Back 2 U".
