Tequila & Taco Fest Training Module: Ghost Chili Tequila

September 21, 2015

With Tequila & Taco Fest approaching, I've been implementing a rigorous training program of, well- tequila and tacos! I mean, failing to prepare is preparing to fail. And when it comes to tequila, failing is not uncommon. So play it smart, and start thinking about what sort of tequila you want to inspire your taste buds with when we get together to party at Fremont Foundry in October.

As with any training, it’s good to go to the extreme so that you’re prepared for anything. Recalling the intensity of one of my favorite cocktails at The Upstairs in Belltown, I decided to enlist a professional for this training module. So I went to talk with Andy, the skilled mixologist at The Upstairs, about how he creates the notorious ghost chili tequila. I say notorious, because when we roll through The Upstairs to DJ, ghost chili tequila concoctions never fail to appear, for better or for worse. Actually, for better AND for worse. Better for the night, since we all know how tequila can liven up a party. Worse in regards to the morning after, and I’m not talking hang overs. I’m talking about what that kind of heat can do to your body, don’t overdo it like we do… but I digress…

So I went to talk with Andy. He not only walked me through how he infuses the tequila, but also how to create one of his signature cocktails, ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’. Take a look. - Zach

...aaaaannnd that's where I ran out of memory, like a rookie. Here's the recipe.

‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’

1.5 oz tequila + ghost chili tequila (blend according to taste, 1-5 stars)

0.75 oz fresh lemon juice

0.5 oz honey syrup (equal parts honey dissolved in to hot water)

0.5 oz geranium liqueur

Pour all ingridients into a mixing glass, add ice and shake. Fine strain into a chilled glass, garnish with lemon peel. Enjoy!
